THE ATLAS

Make this sophisticated wine country cottage your personal Napa Valley hideaway. The cottages at The Atlas blend a modern aesthetic with Zen-like tranquility and historic charm. This well-appointed property offers every comfort – from a fully stocked kitchenette to a cozy fireplace, and a sun-dappled outdoor seating area.

Every detail was selected with the discerning traveler in mind – from the curated artwork, to the plush robes, to beds that you will have a hard time leaving in the morning, to the designer selected furnishings.

In the morning, prepare your Nespresso coffee and step outside to enjoy the crisp Calistoga air while mulling over the day’s possibilities. Will you explore the nearby hiking trails, indulge in spa treatments or stumble upon the cabernet sauvignon of your dreams at a nearby winery?

Come home from a day of wine tasting and unwind a bit before dinner. Step out onto the private side yard and you’ll find two oversized chairs inviting you to curl up a bit and take in some sun. Or, sink into the plush chaise lounge and dig into that book you’ve been trying to find the time to read.

When it’s time for pre-dinner appetizers, you’ll find everything you need in the fully-stocked kitchenette. Prepare a cheese board to pair along with that delicious cabernet you picked up earlier and enjoy it out on your private patio.

If you decide on a cozy night in, the fireplace, some music and the bistro table set on the patio set the stage for the ultimate romantic date night.

Wineries, Tours & Activities

  • What are the best wineries near The Atlas in Calistoga?

The Atlas is perfectly situated near iconic estates like Chateau Montelena and Tamber Bey Vineyards. For an intimate boutique experience, we highly recommend Amici Cellars, Phifer Pavitt, and Knights Bridge Winery. Our guests enjoy effortless access to the finest wine tasting in northern Napa Valley.

  • Do I need reservations for wine tastings in Napa Valley?

Yes. Most wineries require advanced bookings for seated tastings. We recommend reserving 2–4 weeks in advance, especially for weekend visits.

For a more spontaneous day, The Atlas is just steps from fantastic walk-in tasting rooms such as Lola, Picayune Cellars, and August Briggs. For premium olive oil tasting, don't miss Grove 45.

Atlas Perk: Ask us for "two-for-one" tasting cards to use during your stroll downtown!

  • Why should I hire a professional driver for my wine tastings?

Hiring a local driver ensures a safe, stress-free day among Napa Valley’s 450+ wineries. Beyond transportation, professional drivers act as "insider guides"—crafting the perfect itinerary, securing priority reservations, and sharing local history. We are happy to introduce you to our favorite Napa Valley wine tour drivers; we are connected to the best in Calistoga and the Valley.

  • Where can I find the best mud baths and hot springs?

Calistoga is world-famous for its volcanic ash mud baths. The Atlas is minutes from top-rated spas including Solage, Indian Springs, Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort, and Golden Haven Hot Springs. Whether you seek a traditional soak or a modern mineral pool, the ultimate wellness retreat is just a short walk from the inn.

Dining & Culinary Experiences

  • What are the best restaurants in downtown Calistoga within walking distance?

Our inn is steps away from Calistoga’s culinary highlights. Enjoy rustic American fare at Sam’s Social Club, Michelin-starred dining at Auro, or casual farm-to-table bites at Lovina. For local brews and a great patio, don't miss the Calistoga Inn Restaurant & Brewery on Lincoln Avenue. Please ask us for a complete list of our favorite local spots!

  • Where can I find the best breakfast in Calistoga?

For a classic local vibe, head to Cafe Sarafornia for their famous corned beef hash. If you prefer light pastries and artisan coffee, Bella Bakery or the Calistoga Roastery are guest favorites. For a healthy option, visit House of Better.

Before you head out: Enjoy a cup of tea, a Nespresso, or a delicious French Press coffee from the comfort of your cozy cottage at The Atlas.

Logistics & Travel

  • When is the best time of year to visit Calistoga?

Harvest Season (August–October) is the most vibrant, but we love "Cabernet Season" (November–April) for its cozy atmosphere and smaller crowds. Spring brings beautiful mustard blooms to the vineyards, making it a photographer's dream. Truly, there isn’t a bad season to visit Napa Valley.

  • Which airport should I fly into?

For the most convenient experience, we recommend Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa, located just 30 minutes from The Atlas. This local gem allows you to bypass major Bay Area traffic and features carriers such as American Airlines, Avelo, and Southwest Airlines.

    • Pro Tip: If you fly with Alaska Airlines, take advantage of their "Wine Flies Free" program, which allows Mileage Plan members to check a safely packed case of up to 12 bottles at no extra cost.
    • Other Airports: San Francisco (SFO), Oakland (OAK), and Sacramento (SMF) are all approximately 1.5 to 2 hours away.
  • Can I visit Calistoga without a car?

While some guests enjoy a "car-free" luxury experience by flying into STS, taking a ride-share to the inn, and using our complimentary cruiser bikes to reach downtown tasting rooms, your options may be limited. For winery tours beyond the downtown area, we can help you book one of our award-winning Napa Valley wine tour drivers. However, if you would like to explore the full breadth of Napa Valley on your own or prefer more flexibility during your stay, we highly suggest renting a car.

  • Can I request an early check-in?

We are happy to accommodate early check-ins whenever possible. As soon as your cottage is ready, we will send you a text notification letting you know your room is available.

ABOUT THE LOCATION

People often say life moves at a different pace in Calistoga. This northernmost wine region of the Napa Valley exudes a rustic farm town charm that invites you to slow down. This is the kind of place where you’ll find regulars chatting the morning away on Adirondack chairs outside the town’s main coffee shop. Yet, you’ll also find elevated dining experiences, luxury spas, tasting rooms and, of course, some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon estates in the country. The Atlas is located in the heart of Calistoga, walking distance (just 4 short blocks) to the center of town.

For the outdoor enthusiast, this is the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature. Take advantage of nearby hikes or a stroll through town and admire the pine covered Vaca and Mayacama mountains rising in the background. Take a wine tasting bike tour and earn your Cabernet! Follow it all up with a detox in geothermal fed mineral spring pools or a volcanic ash mud bath.
